Does anyone have some pictures of the motor (engine) of a class 80 or 81 locomotive?

I am interested to see them in detail to compare with those we have in the UK.

colegul forumist stie asta, 6lda28b avand si la ei clasa 25, 26, 27, el vrea poze pentru a vedea diferentele constructive dintre cele 2 variante ale motorului, din pacate nu am gasit fotografii concludente

daca aveti poze cu turbosuflanta si de pe partea cu esaparile motorului, cu schimbatorul de caldura si filtru combinat ulei md, eventual partea din fata cu pompa hidrostatica si pompa de apa sunt binevenite, aici ca sunt principalele diferente constructive intre cele 2 variante

We have locomotives with similar motors in the UK and are looking at buying spares from Romania.

Better buy the hole locomotives from Romania ) .. There are piles of this locos that await valorification through scrap steel.In some cases these locos are damaged,but in some cases they are no longer used,so ... :roll:

Buy the entire locos, use them for spare parts then scrap the rest (or preserve the rest of the locomotive as a non-working museum exhibit).

in these pictures you are looking to admision side, the exhaust are located on the other side, similar to admision

the differences between two versions of this engine is the turbocharger, the engine oil filter, the engine oil heat exchanger and if i´m not wrong, the hydrostatic pump and cooling water pump

Thank you for this information. One concern was that the exhaust from the cylinder heads may be different, but maybe we will be in luck? It is useful to know about the turbocharger, oil heat exchanger and pumps. I don't know if the governor will be similar?

As parts for these locos are hard to find in the UK we are looking at purchasing a quantity from Romania, so are hoping that they are the same as on our preserved class 24, 25, 26, 27 & 33 locos. We are looking at things like cylinder heads, pistons & rings , con rods etc.

I have made a contact with Sitan Grup who are looking at the list of part numbers for me and I hope that they will be able to help.

This may be an option if we can not find new or refurbished parts although to transport complete locomotives would be very expensive!

15 years ago there was a lot of these parts, actually i don't know

and you do not know for sure what is inside the engine of the withdrawn locomotive

from my experience with class 80/81 the only failure that put out of service a locomotive was a serious malfunction of the motor, crankshaft damaged for example

This is a good point and why we are looking for new / refurbished parts.
