Rhätische Bahn - Bernina Express

Calea ferata federala elvetiana in cantonul Grisons (Graubunden) se numeste Rhätische Bahn. Am calatorit cu trenul Bernina Express din St.-Moritz pana la Cavaglia. Trece prin munti la peste 2000m, muilte tuneluri, viaducte, poduri.. infrastructura foarte impresionanta.

I have a few of these as well . In summer (2009):


Ospizio Bernina, the highest station on the line.


The spiral viaduct at Brusio, where the line passes over itself.


Le Prese, where the trains use the street, like a tram.

And in winter (2011, with new trains having replaced most of the older ones):


In Ospizio Bernina again, with some 3 metres of snow.


En route in Cadera, crossing a historic motor car in splendid condition.


And finally, Pontresina, one of the most important stations along the line, where a motor car departs for St. Moritz with a snowplough.

I've only been as far as Cavaglia, hiked a bit in the mountains around and left the same day. The part where the rain passes through the city is really impressive... wish I could check it out myself.

Speaking of which, I took some time off work around easter and I'll probably going to Graubunden - any hints?

Well, you should still have some snow left on Ospizio Bernina and maybe in Alp Grüm, and apart from the Bernina line there is the Landwasser viaduct on the Albula line which is very famous (though I've never been there for photos), just outside Filisur. The street running portions are in the village of Le Prese (just south of Poschiavo) and in Tirano (I). Non-RhB-wise I can recommend Sevelen, which is in the canton of St. Gallen but not far from Graubünden (it's where I took the picture of EN Zürichsee that I posted in the SBB thread - best to be there in the morning, because in the afternoon the solar position renders photos pretty much impossible.

I should definetly get some nice scenery -urban rail can get boring sometimes.
