No I didn't. Generally, toilets in Romanian trains are o.k. Most of the time there is water to wash your hands, and there is soap. I saw last time when I was in Romania why there is mostly no toiletpaper... I took IR1831 from Iași to Vatra Dornei. In Iași the toilets were clean and there was soap and toilet paper, I saw it by myself. After Pașcani I saw a Women walking with 2 rolls of toiletpapers in the train. And when I go to the toilet afterwards, there wasn't any paper anymore. So I think some people are steeling toiletpaper...  Crying or Very sad

Some trains look bad because people wreck anything they can get their hands on.
People think that whatever is free must be good, so why not some free toilet paper, even though it's the cheapest one...
Better bring your own toilet paper or paper tissues, and some liquid soap to wash your hands.

The 'normal' trainstation of Hoorn. The tracks are renewed a few months ago here as you can see  Very Happy
Unfortunately, renewing means always removing switches here, so there is less capacity to store trains here.

Other thing we are famous for in Olanda... This is the time of the year for it. Farmes use a lot of chemicals to kill insects etc, so they are looking nice, but are extremely unhealty for the people which are living in the near of the flowers (they get sick). Government says: Hey they are very nice, all the people love it, and lots of tourist love them. A little chemical to protect them, is harmless...  Evil or Very Mad

And of course, Dykes. This one is from Enkhuizen to Lelystad. I cycled it today. 2 hours the same view... It's a bit boring on a bike as you can see...  Razz

What is the white pole with the black "hat" in this image? What was its purpose?

I see another one in the other station, in the first picture.

And the white box built next to the old Twisk building, is it an electrical transformer shelter or something else? It does not fit in the landscape Smile

The red tulips are at least grown in natural soil :)I heard that most of the vegetables we import from Holland are grown in greenhouses on cotton-like "soil" and they are fed with a mixture of water and chemicals.

We don't have the luck here to get bored on bicycle :DYou are lucky to have a dedicated track, here in Romania going by byke is a risky business. The drivers are a bit disrespectfull, dogs can chase you or you can annoy pedestrians. Things are going for the better though.
Two years ago I was in Belgium and I was very glad to find they have a very good network of bicycle tracks. The best thing there was that I was able to ride my bicycle for 5km only driven by wind, it was that strong. It was in on the coastline, Oostende.

You can escape dogs (they rarelly run faster than 25 km/h)... but it's hard to escape an 80 years old woman, crossing street on red light, puting her potatos and carrots bag in front of you when you'll biking 30 km/h. And if you avoid her, she will scream ,,You blind man, are you trying to kill me?" And after you escape her, you must pay attention to all the potholes, cars getting on the road from sidewalks (yes, the pedestrian sidewalks are ussually used for parking), pedestrians avoiding those cars or trying to cross the street and so on. And if you travel on DJ (Drum judeţean = districtual road), in some villages you will find pedestrians walking directly on the street... sometimes 2 or 3 in a row. Last week, a biker tried to avoid 2 pedestrians (the road had a sidewalk, but they wated to walk on the road)... he touched one, than he fall from his bicycle. An ambulance was needed  Crying or Very sad And the pedestrians had no remorse... they were, in fact, angry that the biker hit them.
So you can't get bored riding a bicycle in Romania, you must be alert all the time.

I do'nt know of there is an official name for it, but the chef of station can send a -ding dong- sound to next station with it, when the train departs. So the next station can hear with this machine that te train is coming. The speed is never higher than 25km/h and at some level crossings the train has to stop, so the real arrival is 10 or 15 minutes later. This is also more a souvenir, because there is only one daily train from april till october.
But it's nice, we have only a few lines like this. At 11.00 'o clock I can hear the train passing by in my house when windows are opened.  Very Happy (400 meters away)

And the story you tell about tomatoes and paprikas is also true, there are a lot of greenhouses in Holland, and sindce a few years they are getting enormous, more industrial style:

Galeria Caspar Aardwarmte%20boorlocatie%20(640x425)

As I take a look at the parking places in front of such places, you see almost only cars from Poland, Bulgaria and sometimes Romania as well. Conditions for those workers are bad, long working days, low salaries (especially when you compare them to a Dutch worker). The salaries are not bad in the beginning, but the bosses and companies which employs them are taking there money back for housing costs that are sometimes exorbitant high. Example, a Romanian worker who is working 40 hours a week earns 1000 euro netto a month. The boss asks 500 euro's for the rent of 50m2 house, which is sometimes shared with 8 other workers... Then the boss ask 100 euro for lunch packages during working hours... and so on. At the end there is hardly money over. And when somebody get sick, they don't get money at all, but he must off course pay the rent of the house. Not a good situation. So if you wan't to work here in such an industry, think twice.  Wink

Some sort of ringer was installed also on our network, I don't know exactly how it was used but I assume it was not much different. Here it is in Anina station:

https://2img.net/h/i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff4/tozlovanuvlad/Divers/M900/Oravita-Anina/DSC01936.jpg

https://2img.net/h/i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff4/tozlovanuvlad/Divers/M900/Oravita-Anina/DSC01928.jpg

The one in the right is a newer type, intalled after 1918.
In present days I never saw something like this still in service. There are stations served by only one employe and he is required to stick to the command post, never to leave it during the shift. If he fails to answer the call, he can be sanctioned. Therefore, he cannot go out to check the surroundings, to clean, to cut grass, care for the flowers, etc. A simple device like this that would extend the "coverage" of the alarm bell could have make life bearable for the poor guy stuck in the chair for hours and hours.

All our stations were connected by a private phone network (digital with optic fiber in important stations, analogue in smaller stations). They can be called from outside by dialing 021 319 95 28 and then the CFR number, but from a CFR phone you can't call outside the CFR network (but it is possible to call to BDZ, MAV and soon CFM private phone network). The CFR phone book is available at http://www.tccfr.ro/index/index.php
On non-interoperable lines, the phone network was destroyed... the private operators use mobile phones.

This train is designed with a high placed drivercabin. When 2 trains of this type combine with each other, the passengers can walk between those trainsets via a path under the drivercabines.
